Habakkuk...HABAKkUK????

There actually is a book in the bible called Habakkuk. I know its not in Matthew like I said I was reading in but this verse came across me this morning and I thought it was so incredible.

Habakkuk 3:17-19
17 Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls,18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.19 God, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the deer's; he makes me tread on my high places. To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments.

This is something we must be able to say if we are Christians. Even if there isn't any food to eat or my parents died, or I have nothing at all I can still rejoice in the Lord. Why? Why can we have joy if we have nothing? Read verse 18 again and then journal about it. If you are reading in Matthew read chapters 1-7 this week. Love you guys.

POWER!!!

The gospel is so powerful, Jesus is so powerful, and we are his servants, shouldn't we be displaying some type of power now today? Read this story and what does Jesus tell Nathaniel after Nathaniel is so amazed with him?

John 1:43-51
43 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, Follow me.44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.46 Nathanael said to him, Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Philip said to him, Come and see.47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!48 Nathanael said to him, How do you know me? Jesus answered him, Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.49 Nathanael answered him, Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!50 Jesus answered him, Because I said to you, I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these.51 And he said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.

Friends of God

We once were enemies of God but through his sons death we are now called friends!!!! How frickin amazing is that? We are no longer enemies of the cross working against its efforts but for it! Read this passage and write down some significant things about it to share with everyone tomorrow. Please do it because I am going to ask if you did and I will be very disappointed if you don't. Bring your bibles and journals tomorrow too. Love you guys

Romans 5:7-11
7 Now it is an extraordinary thing for one to give his life even for an upright man, though perhaps for a noble and lovable and generous benefactor someone might even dare to die.8 But God shows and clearly proves His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us.9 Therefore, since we are now justified (acquitted, made righteous, and brought into right relationship with God) by Christ’s blood, how much more [certain is it that] we shall be saved by Him from the indignation and wrath of God.10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, it is much more [certain], now that we are reconciled, that we shall be saved (daily delivered from sin’s dominion) through His [resurrection] life.11 Not only so, but we also rejoice and exultingly glory in God [in His love and perfection] through our Lord Jesus Christ, through Whom we have now received and enjoy [our] reconciliation.

Tired

Im very tired and feel like I am going all the time. I don't know if you guys ever are like that but my schedule is just so jam packed and busy all the time. I was listening to Francis Chan today, (which I highly recommend you do whenever you can) and was challenged to really be in the word. For some reason it has been so hard for me to do it these past few weeks and I even find myself not wanting to...I know that's pretty bad for a worship leader. Let me just encourage you all to really be seeking God through the scriptures. If we are not reading and growing as leaders then how are those we are leading expected to grow? Ezekiel talks about the scroll being sweet as honey and then in Psalm 119 David says over like 20 times how he delights in the law. Read Psalm 119 and underline every time he says he loves the law. Tell me how many times it happens in your journal.

Everyone needs to have their Bible and journal. If you don't I will embarrass you!!!!

Read this passage. We talked about it on Sunday...well I taught on it so you all should kinda remember a little bit of it. What is Jesus saying about those who follow him? What do they look like? What do you think this passage meant to the people Jesus was talking to (his disciples)? How are we supposed to respond to this parable?

Martha and Mary

Its crazy how fast the world we live in moves. Everyday we are expected to have some homework assignment done, chores, sports practice, bible study, youth group, taking care of the homeless...the list just goes on and on. Isn't there something more then just getting things done for Jesus. I read this passage recently and was challenged to "choose the better dish." Read through this passage in Luke 10:38-42 and try to figure out which of the 2 women you are. Why was Jesus telling Martha that Mary had chosen what was better? Aren't we supposed to do all these things in preparation for his second coming? Respond to this please because I will be asking you tomorrow if you read and if you have your journals and bibles.

Those who trust
Rain down

Sweetly broken

This Weekend

Was it not amazing this weekend!!!! I love seeing our church get on board with this and how our heartbeat is getting closer to God's. You assignment this week is to find three scriptures that talk about God's desire for the lost, the broken, the hurt and the afflicted. Find a biblical basis for what we were talking about and what we are focusing on. Heres an example:

Psalm 82- God demands that we give justice to the weak and the fatherless and to "maintain the right of the afflicted".
or...
Micah 6:6-8- God requires that we walk justly and humble before him. That we would love justice and not come before him with burnt sacrifices without us living justly. Our worship must be met with ethics.

find more like these...and you better have your journals and be ready to talk about this!!!!!! or ill slap YOU!!!!

bringing you thoughts to God

I have been reading this book about true discipleship, (walking with God in obedience and the process we go through in following him) and came to this section that has been very helpful. It challenged me to constantly bring my thoughts back to God throughout the day. Whether it was in prayer or just meditation in silence or me thinking about the creation. It has been a great practice that I am trying to make sure I do constantly. It is so powerful to think about God but it also makes me want to be more in line with him and to walk in his ways. Try it for the next few days that whenever you remember to think and meditate on God. Think of how amazing and ow powerful, think of the sacrifice he made in his son. Think of who he created you to be.

Romans 9:22-29

Read this and make some observations no the text.

22What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,
23 in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory--24 even us whom he has called, not from the Jews only but also from the Gentiles?25 As indeed he says in Hosea, Those who were not my people I will call my people, and her who was not beloved I will call beloved.26 And in the very place where it was said to them, You are not my people, there they will be called sons of the living God.

27
And Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: Though the number of the sons of Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will be saved,
28 for the Lord will carry out his sentence upon the earth fully and without delay.29 And as Isaiah predicted, If the Lord of hosts had not left us offspring, we would have been like Sodom and become like Gomorrah.

Does andyone else see what this means? We were objects of wrath (Eph 2:3) before we were freed from it in Christ. And now we are made part of Israel the saving bloodline!!!!!!!!! How amazing is that!!!!! When I read it I just had to tell someone and I wanted to tell you all. We were freed from sin and made alive in Christ. Does anyone else find that so amazing? I do!!! Doesn't it make you want to tell someone? I want to tell eveyone!!!!!!!!!

Colosians

I started reading Colosians yesterday and I remembered why I love that book so much. Read chapter 1 verses 24-29 really looking at 29. What does that mean for us as leaders in the church? Make 30 observations on this section.

EXPANSION!!!

is this Thursday July 2nd from 1-3 in the chapel. Be there and be prepared!!!!!

Acts 28

I was reading in Acts 28 today and Paul quoted Isaiah when he was talking about the Pharisees who, "Although hearing they do not hear and while seeing they do not see..." I think its crazy that some people hear the gospel and some people see the gospel in action but still do not believe nor do they obey. Why? Check out Matt 13:10-16 and write out 30 observations on the text. Whats Jesus talking about and what is the reason for people not hearing and understanding? Your observations may be questions or just obvious facts about the text. Try to find out everything about it.

MEETING COMING UP!

We haven't met in a while and so its time for another meeting. Goodness i've been slacking and im sorry. So we are going to meet in 2 weeks...not nxt week but the week after which is the 17th. Spread the word and let everyone know that its coming. I have exciting news and some stuff I wan to try and also some stuff that I said we were gonna do that has kinda died out. Tell people to check the blog when you can...you're all awesome!

Luke 9:23-25

Read the passage. This isn't something we normally like to do, deny ourselves. We like to indulge in the flesh and allow our flesh determine what we do. This is contrary to what Jesus is saying. he says, "...if anyone would follow me he must deny himself..." What does that mean? is he really saying to not have the things you want? Is he really saying we must suffer? Is being a Christian easy or hard? I think we need to deny our flesh more...I think we need to do it all the time. Stop being selfish, stop thinking of what you want and do what the father wills. Allow him to move in you and use you in incredible ways. Is it worth it to live for yourself or to live for Him? We have this short amount of time to live for him and we must do it! WE MUST DO IT!!!!!

the heart is what counts

So often we get caught up in doing outward acts in keeping with righteousness that we completely forget that the most important thing we are to do is to just be obedient from the heart. The pharisees set up so many rules to make sure they did not sin that they just became legalistic and focused solely on the outward actions. Big problem, for when Jesus started preaching he declared that "what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person." (Matt 15: 18) Also when Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was he said "to love the Lord your God," completely baffling what the Jews had thought, which was obedience to the law. Why do you do the things you do? Is it for your parents, your friends, family? What ultimately is important in obedience? Why do you follow the Law? Why do you follow God?

POEM by Edward Taylor

What Love is this of thine, that Cannot bee
In thine Infinity, O Lord Confide,
Unless it in thy very Person, See,
Infinity and Finity conjoyn'd?
What hath thy Godhead, as not satisfied,
Marri'de our manhood, making it it's Bride?

who is this talking about? what does this say about Jesus? why is this important especially for celebrating easter?

joy

Obadiah Holmes was standing up for what he believed in even though it went against some of the doctrine of the church. He was so convinced that what he knew was right he was jailed and severly whipped. Do you know what you believe, about Jesus and his sacrifice? About the church and its duties, about the law and its power? Obadiah was willing to be punished because his conviction was so strong on Baptism and the Lord's Supper. Read his response and the verse following andask for that type of gentleness and joy that is only experienced in Christ.

"And as the man began to lay the stokes upon my back, I said to the people, though my Flesh should fail, and my Spirit should fail, yet God would not fail; so it pleased the Lord to come in, and so fill my heart and tongue as a vessel full, and with an audible voice I broke forth, praying to the Lord not to lay this Sin to their charge, and telling the people, That now I found he did not fail me, and therefore now I should trust him forever who failed me not; for in truth, as the strokes fell upon me, I had spiritual manifestation o God's presence, as the like thereto I never had, nor felt, nor can with fleshly tongue express, and the outward pain was so removed from me, that indeed I am not able to declare it to you, it was easy to me, that I could bear it,...when he had loosed me from the Post, having joyfulness in my heart, and cheerfulness in my countenance, as the Spectators observed, I told the magistrates you have struck me as with Roses..."

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
